Digital X-ray imaging
Digital radiography produces detailed images in seconds, with far less waiting than older film systems. X-rays are often the fastest way to evaluate bones and joints after an injury, check the chest and lungs, or look for swallowed objects and bladder stones.
Because the images are digital, they can be shared instantly if your pet ever needs referral care.
Ultrasound for dogs and cats
Ultrasound uses sound waves — no radiation — to see the soft tissues X-rays can't: the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, intestines, and more. It's completely non-invasive, and most pets tolerate it calmly.
It's invaluable for investigating unexplained weight loss, vomiting, or changes in thirst and urination — and pregnancy checks are simple too.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy lets us look directly inside — the stomach, intestines, nasal passages, and beyond — using a slim camera on a flexible tube. For many cases it means answers, and sometimes even foreign-object retrieval, without open surgery.
Depending on the study, your pet may need short anesthesia and fasting beforehand. We'll explain exactly what to expect before anything happens.
Which test does my pet need?
You don't have to know — that's our job. We start with a thorough exam and history, then recommend the least invasive test likely to give an answer. Sometimes that's an X-ray the same day; sometimes it's ultrasound or endoscopy. Either way, you'll get honest guidance about why we're recommending it.

Diagnostic questions
Is sedation required for imaging?
X-rays often need only gentle positioning, though some views are easier with light sedation. Ultrasound is usually done awake. Endoscopy requires short anesthesia. Whatever your pet needs, monitoring standards are the same as in surgery.
How quickly will I get results?
Digital images are available immediately, and in most cases we discuss the findings with you during the same visit.
Can imaging find swallowed objects?
Often, yes. X-rays locate many foreign objects and bladder stones directly; ultrasound and endoscopy find others. If your dog ate something they shouldn't, call us right away at (408) 351-0008 — during open hours we handle urgent cases without an appointment.
